2011: A Year in Fashion
Let's look back at a year filled with Royal fairy tales, BOLD statements and an overall positive outlook to what's ahead in the wonderful world of Style! From the widespread revival of an iconic accessory to the surge in Designer crossover into the masses, what seemed to tie the year together was COLOR!
The Royal Effect
With the fairy tale nuptials of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, came the rebirth of the millinery industry. The royal affair breathed new life into an often "stuffy" tradition, making it now chic to wear a hat. All shapes, sizes and colors are welcomed, the quirkier the better!

A royal wedding requires a regal hat.

Hats off to Lady Katherine- some of her many statement making head pieces.
The Color Club
Whether they were on the Red Carpet, the runway or in the streets, brilliant hues took center stage! From blinding neon's to bedazzling jewel tones, last year was a kaleidoscopic spectrum where no color was left behind, and there aren't any signs of it slowing down for 2012! So keep that in mind when you are working on your product development!

Electrifying, in-your-face shocking shades that light up the night!

Chip off the Color Block. Juxtaposed hues are playful.

Rainbow Connection- takes your denim to the next level by adding a splash of color!
Off the Runway, off the Rack
It was the year of the Designer crossing over into the masses. Huge names in fashion, like Derek Lam, Versace, Missoni and Natori, suddenly found themselves bringing their style to a new generation of shopper. These cheap chic collections are increasing their brands visibility and are making fashion more accessible than ever before!

Time to ring in a New Year! Start afresh in both your home and wardrobe. Clean out the old colors and make room for new ones. Infuse a promising 2012 with hues like regal blue, energetic fuchsia, and classic gray.
Make a resolution to add more royal blue to your life. Leather heels trimmed in cobalt are a perfect choice to wear to a festive soiree. Fill an indigo-glazed bowl with lucky black-eyed peas. A blue bookcase adds pizzazz to a home library. With winter in full swing, sport a knit cap featuring both baby and primary blues.
Hoping to have more fun in 2012? Choosing colors, like hot pink, that make you happy are the perfect way to kick off each of this year’s 366 days. Make a bold choice by selecting a magenta damask sectional for your living room. Chunky bows adorn a rose-colored blouse. Small teardrop earrings pack a visual punch in flamingo pink. Fresh flowers in a fuchsia vase add cheer to dreary January days.

No matter the year or decade, gray is a color that is here to stay. Retro chairs are brought into the twenty-first century with a coat of concrete-colored paint. Tone down a bright sofa with a couple of graphite pillows embellished with white. Keep winter’s chill at bay with a wool coat. After taking off those holiday pounds, cinch your pants with a gray, tooled-leather belt.

From a switch of calendars to the recording of resolutions, January is a month of reflection and change. And the most important changes begin at home with your furnishings and fashion. The New Year is starting off bright with royal blue, saturated pink, and cool gray. During this time for new beginnings, celebrate 2012 with a color revolution!

Its 79 degrees on January 3rd in Los Angeles. What a glorious way to start the New Year! As I look and read what the future may hold at retail in 2012, I get excited over the new possibilities. Online purchasing seems to be the wave of excitement for consumers. Fran and I never had to enter a mall this holiday season. Every purchase was made online. Did you know that Gazelle, the self-described “largest and fastest growing player in the online commence industry, has been around since 2007, offering cash or a Wal-Mart or Amazon gift card to customers for their old electronics? Retailers recognize the demand and value of the trade-in mark. Gazelle has partnered with Costco, Wal-Mart, Office Depot, and Sears to manage their trade-in programs. According to the official Gazelle press kit, key partnerships could account for up to 30% of the online recyclers’ revenue in 2012, versus the 5% it generated from the relationships this year. Online purchasing has become convenient and is easily one of the most important aspects of buying. Fact, major retailers cannot nor do they wish to participate in price cutting that is offered online. I had purchased a watch from a major retailer and even before I opened the package, just out of curiosity, went online to Overstock.com and found the exact watch for $175.00 less. I printed out the page and returned it hoping for a credit against my account only to hear from the store supervisor that they couldn’t match the online price nor will they credit my account for the difference, but they did accept the item back and a credit was applied to my account.
So 2012 and the internet will change not only retailers, but how consumers make that most important final decision. Now the ball is in your court, compete and reduce your margins or hold fast and rely on that face to face relationship that many consumers still rely on to complete their purchase.
No matter which route you choose, 2012 will separate the leaders from the followers.
HAPPY NEW YEAR and hope to see you at our up coming seminars!
